Strange email from Blogger?
Now this could be much ado about nothing, but this morning I received the following email from Blogger - email address: no-reply@blogger.com - in my inbox. It certainly wasn't requested. Take a look and see what you think:
So could this be some sort of Blogger phishing scam? A way for site-hijacking scum to con their way into your site? I don't know, but I certainly think it's something to be aware of - and wary of. Thoughts?
Subject: Blogger Account Information
This email is a response to your request for information about your Blogger account. To regain access to your account, please click on the following link:
(Link omitted because I don't want anyone clicking on it! Although I can say that it begins with the standard http://www.blogger.com/ URL )
Clicking on this link will take you to a web page that will let you choose a new password. Once you've submitted your new password, you'll be able to log in to your Blogger account.
If in the process of recovering your password you see the log into Blogger page, please see this Blogger Help article for information on how to fix your browsers cookie settings:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=654
You could also try logging in/recovering your password from a different web browser - we recommend Mozilla Firefox:

Sincerely,
The Blogger Team

Now it all makes sense!! This happened to me last week. The story is complicated and I've told it in several places already, but last week my site was hacked and I was locked out of it. Long story short blogger and I both suspected a phishing scam was involved. With bloggers help I was able to restore most of my site and regain control after two days. But we were never 100% sure how it happened.
Now, this is the missing piece. Being new to blogger I missed this. A friends site was hacked the night before mine and I went to change my password, the first time since I had started my blog a month earlier. And I GOT THIS EMAIL and followed the directions from what I thought was blogger!!! Good grief. But at least now we know.
Word of warning to everyone! Thanks.
I bet there's an 'abuse@blogger.com' address you could forward it to.
I got the same email.
I went ahead and used it to switch me password. Nothing happened, but now I'm sweating bullets.
Blogger is getting so weird now.
I want a .com
I really do.
Then I can just add a redirect.
Or could... if I knew how LOL.
best send it to blogger.
This looks as random as the beginning of the spam problem when it started.
Cross fingers for me.
I'm with Jeff and EL here--This looks to me exactly like a phishing scam. I wonder if everyone who had a blog hacked received one of those emails? I bet they did, if AD's story is anything to go by!
IMHO it's definitely a phish attempt -- especially if your email address is a hotmail or yahoo one... The Artful Dodger posted something about that last week, i think.
I echo all the other good advice here, mostly because i can't keep quiet, but also because it's sound. Ignore and report. Let's make this fuckwit aware that he doesn't mess with us without reaping the consequences -- many of which include instruments of medieval torture...
Minxxxxx
I've never had that issue with email, but I always leave myself logged in with cookies, and I'd only ever mess with my password if it started to go south or something.
You really gotta wonder: When in the hell are these twats gonna get lives? Geez.
The Cunt.
I too have just rec'd the email - I've been trying to alert blogger to this issue to no avail. Seems that they do not have a scam buster sect. I find this disconcerting.....
